My name is Joyce, and I really like Cleveland. Most of my friends would be able to tell you that. I’m not originally from Cleveland; I’m a transplant from upstate NY who had a hard time adjusting when I first got here, but a lot of things have changed since then.
Despite those difficult first few years, I’ve been here for eight years already, and I haven’t moved! I’ve found that the city is much more than what it seems on the surface. (Though some of the time, it is what it is: abandoned buildings and ironic fire stations that have burned down in fires.) And for a long time, what was on the surface seemed to be static, and lots of people, even natives of Cleveland, didn’t really think it was going to change. But Cleveland is a dynamic city, evidenced by all the fresh energy and innovation, and I am excited to be a part of it.
In that seven years, I’ve also recruited someone to live here: my husband James! Together, we are learning how to contribute to the growth of this city.
I created this blog to tell stories about Cleveland and about how exciting it is to live here right now.
